The bus was travelling from Margate to Herne Bay

An 81-year-old man has been elbowed in the face as he tried to stop a woman being sexually assaulted on a bus.

The woman, 53, said a grey-haired man sat down next to her on the back seat of the number 36 Kent Top Travel service and sexually assaulted her by touching her.

The 81-year-old sitting nearby tried to help the victim but the attacker elbowed him in the face and arm.

Other passengers on the service between Margate and Herne Bay then stepped in before the assailant got off the bus in Birchington.

Kent Police want to contact any passengers on the bus on Saturday afternoon (July 28) who may have witnessed the assault.
