Thanet College is the first in Kent to become a Peter Jones Enterprise Academy.

The academy, set up by the Dragon’s Den businessman, offers a specialised course in enterprise and entrepreneurship.

It gives students the opportunity to start their own micro business, whilst gaining the specialised knowledge to succeed in the business world.

Students also get four weeks work experience in a real-life business and attend master classes with a range of top entrepreneurs.

The college says applicants do not necessarily have to be traditional business students but can have a background in creative arts, construction, or just have an enterprise idea they would like to pursue while studying in a business format.

Sara Reeves, who leads business and enterprise courses at the college said: “Students on these courses will learn by operating their own business. They need to come to us with a pitch that they can work on. This is a new way of learning where students live their business idea rather than studying theory. Even the environment will be different – with discussion and planning in the boardroom rather than the classroom.”

Students need to apply by April 5, 2012 for courses starting in September. Visit www.thanet.ac.uk
