A paramedic fled when he saw his patient coming towards him with a kitchen knife, a court has been told.
Michael Lawrence, 34, was drunk and had slashed his arm with a chisel at his home in Appledore Close, Margate.
But when mental-health staff refused to take him, Lawrence became agitated.
The paramedic told police: “He overheard what I was saying.
“He strode towards me with a five-inch kitchen knife. When I saw him with the knife, I thought he was going to kill me.”
Appearing at Margate court, Lawrence admitted assault.
Paul Shingleton, defending, said Lawrence became agitated because of problems with neighbours who threw their empty beer cans into stairwells and dealt drugs.
Because of their excessive partying he could not sleep.
Neil Hubbard, chairman of the Bench, said: “This court does not take kindly to an assault on a public servant who was trying to help you.
“You have shown remorse and cut down on your drinking.
“If you reoffend, you know what to expect because no other court will give you the benefit of the doubt.”
Lawrence was given a nine-month supervision order and ordered to pay £100 costs plus £85 compensation to the paramedic.
