Mayor of Margate faces animal cruelty charge

Edwin Watt-Ruffell
The Mayor of Margate appeared in court this morning (Thu, Nov 5) to face a charge of animal cruelty.

The RSPCA is pursuing the prosecution Edwin Watt-Ruffell, of Kingston Avenue, Garlinge.

He is charged with causing unnecessary suffering to a kitten in his care.

The case was due to be heard at Margate court this morning but will now take place in front of Medway magistrates after he asked for it to be moved.

Cllr Watt-Ruffell, who is a Tory councillor for the Dane Valley ward, was appointed as Mayor of Margate in May.
