Kent have completed the signing of Sri Lankan leg-spinner Malinga Bandara as their overseas player for the second half of the summer.
The 30-year-old, who worked with the county’s new head coach, Paul Farbrace when he was assistant coach of Sri Lanka, has played eight Test matches and has featured in 31 One-Day Internationals for his country.
He will take over from Stuart Clark as Kent’s overseas player from May and will be available for the club’s first Friends Provident Twenty20 game against the Essex Eagles at the beginning of June. The club are yet to confirm whether Clark will team up with Bandara as the county’s allotted two overseas players for the new T20 competition.
Farbrace said: “I’m absolutely delighted that such a high quality cricketer has chosen to join Kent. I’m thrilled at the prospect of him teaming up with James Tredwell and creating a high quality spin attack. Malinga is an experienced cricketer and will add great knowledge to our team; both on and off the field.”
